Citing the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Philippines has announced its intention to bring China in front of an international arbitration tribunal over Beijing's claims to what CNN describes as "large swathes of the South China Sea." Experts deem it unlikely that Chinese leaders, who are subject to a 2005 anti-secession law prohibiting concessions on territory claimed by China, will accept the results of international adjudication.
