Panetta: US helping French forces with intel

ABOARD A US MILITARY AIRCRAFT (AP) — Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Monday that the U.S. is already providing intelligence-gathering assistance to the French in their assault on Islamist extremists in Mali, and that officials would not rule out having American aircraft land in the North African nation as part of future efforts to lend airlift and logistical support.
