Pakistan Shifts War Footing Along Kashmir Line of Control

UPDATED 6:58 AM EST, January 11, 2013

The situation along the Line of Control continues to escalate, with Pakistan now mobilizing troops along the border and cancelling all military leave, according to the Indian Express. Pakistan has also closed crossings used for cross-border trade, stranding dozens of trucks and busses. Nonetheless both Islamabad and New Dehli are emphasizing that the violence, which has included the beheading of an Indian soldier, would not block efforts to improve relations between the two nuclear-armed rivals. Some intelligence analysts have identified the LoC tensions as driven either by sub-national groups seeking to promote ideological agendas, or by elements inside Pakistan or India seeking to exaggerate the threat environment.
