The Jerusalem Post reports on an Iranian announcement that Tehran will deploy its 24th fleet to the Mediterranean sea to block "threats to Islamic Republic." The 24th fleet is, technically, a submarine and a warship. Similar deployments have been used symbolically to spur national pride, but also materially to deliver directly assets to Iranian proxies in Sudan, Lebanon, and Syria, and indirectly to Iranian proxies in the Gaza Strip. The announcement comes after another in which Iran pledged to position naval assets off the U.S. coast.
