Gun victims, academics join Senate firearms clash

WASHINGTON (AP) — Each side in the debate over gun control is finding allies among relatives of people killed by firearms as the Senate holds its second hearing on the subject since the shooting deaths of 20 first-graders in Newtown, Conn.

A Senate Judiciary subcommittee was holding a hearing Tuesday on the effectiveness and constitutionality of gun restrictions. The panel also was questioning legal experts and a U.S. attorney on the issue, which has captured lawmakers' attention since the nightmarish December massacre.
